Why learn more about hunger in Larimer County?
Because an increasing population of the elderly with fixed incomes go hungry every day in our community...in fact, more than 50% of the individuals served at our food pantry are either children or the elderly.
Because despite low unemployment, the fastest growing segment of the hungry is the working poor. Low wage jobs, lack of health insurance and high housing costs contribute dramatically to the demand for food from our warehouse.

*On average our clients seek food assistance 3 times each month
In 2009:
27,430 people were served through the FBLC Food Share direct service pantry locations in Fort Collins and Loveland.
66,049 Kids Cafe meals were served to kids in need at 6 area locations.
7.5 million pounds of food was distributed to Larimer County residents in need valued at $9 million.
The food bank provided more than 1,200,000 pounds of food to partner agencies, valued at $2.1 million.

Hunger in America 2010
The Feeding America network of food banks and food-rescue organizations provides hunger-relief services to an estimated 37 million low-income people each year - one in eight Americans - including nearly 14 million children and nearly 3 million seniors. This report is an increase of 46 percent over the findings reported four years ago in Hunger in America 2006, which was based on data collected in 2005.
Hunger in America 2010 - Local Impacts
Locally, more than 30,000* Larimer County residents are seeking food assistance each year through Food Bank for Larimer County and its emergency food provider agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, and emergency shelters. The primary purpose of emergency food providers is to provide food to people in a hunger crisis. This finding marks a 55 percent increase from the19, 368 annual clients reported just four years ago in Hunger in America 2006. (*This report does not account for clients receiving food from other non-emergency food providers such as day care centers and senior centers and other Food Bank programs such as Kids Cafe.)
