Craig Fowler, the Food Share Manager at the Loveland location, thrives on the interaction he’s able to have with program guests. His warm smile says it all, “I enjoy seeing the faces of the people, getting to know their stories, and having the opportunity to chat with them. It’s a good feeling. Not just giving food out, but having a deeper connection with as many people as I can.”
As the Food Share manager, he works with his staff to set up the floor based on the available food donations. It’s a balance of making sure all the goods are given out while they’re at their freshest, without running out before the Food Bank closes for the day. “I try to end up with one extra loaf of bread every day, and nothing else.”
The Loveland Food Share is a huge part our hunger relief network. This client choice, fresh food pantry serves 11,045 people annually and distributed well over 3 million pounds of food in 2016. This location accounts for 42% of the total food the Food Bank for Larimer County gives out.
Craig began working for the Food Bank as a driver for the Fort Collins location in 2009. He then transferred to Fort Collins Food Share, then into Food Link, and finally to the manager of the Loveland Food Share when the position became available nearly 4 years ago. He loves, “Knowing we, as an organization, fill a basic need that people must have every day.”
Craig recognizes there are a lot of misconceptions about the Food Bank. Many think most people who come are homeless, but in reality, “It’s a lot of seniors, people working, families; I know that so many people who come here are just regular people. They’re like you and me. Anyone can need the Food Bank at some point.”
When he’s not working, Craig enjoys hanging out with his daughter, getting outside, and traveling.
