Child Nutrition Summer Volunteers
When the school year ends, the need for meals for children doesn’t. That’s where the Food Bank’s Child Summer Feeding Program comes in. During the summer months, we provide meals to children in need that they would otherwise receive during the school year. It’s a huge undertaking, but with the help of community volunteers like you, we can do it!
Please review the volunteer opportunities below to see if you are ready, willing and able to help us feed children in need this summer! Most opportunities are from June 3rd through August 9th.
Site Activity Leader
Our site activity leaders manage child-friendly activities at our summer food truck meal sites. Volunteers are asked to go to the food truck sites, monitor activities (jump rope, hopscotch, coloring, etc.) and transport activity materials (provided by the Food Bank) from site to site. Site activity leader opportunities are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays during lunchtime.
Regular Kitchen Volunteer
Our regular kitchen volunteers are always important, but never more so than during the summer months. Kitchen volunteers help prepare healthy, made-from-scratch meals and snacks at our Wright Drive location for our child and senior programs. Opportunities include preparing and portioning food. No culinary training is necessary. Various shifts available. During this limited 10-week program, we ask that you commit to a minimum of 1 shift per week and a minimum of 8 weeks of service.
The summer is a busy time at the Food Bank, making sure all those meals get where they need to go. As a route ride-along volunteer you will assist our route drivers with everything from loading and unloading, navigating and delivering meals. Shifts are Monday-Friday, 9 am-1 pm. We ask that you commit to a minimum of 1 shift per week.
Even though it’s only a 10-week program, life happens. There are vacations and sick days that we need to be ready for. As a fill-in driver, you can help the Food Bank by being on on-call to step in if one of our drivers is unavailable. Opportunities are Monday-Friday, 8 am-1 pm.
Thank you for helping the Food Bank serve the community with this important program!
